Biography
Formed as a gospel quartet, the Group Fire blend their silky vocal harmonies into an inspiring fusion of contemporary R&B, gospel, and jazz. Their first full-length project, It Takes a Village, arrived in 2012. The single "Again" gave them their initial entry into the Billboard gospel airplay chart’s upper ranks, reaching number 17 in 2019.
The New Jersey-based ensemble consists of brothers Terelle, who handles lead vocals, and Juwan Cooper on tenor, alongside Tajohn on alto and Al-Shamir Hill on baritone. In 2009 the Coopers’ grandfather, Jet Records North/East CEO Bishop T. Cooper, recognized the teenagers’ steady stage presence and audience appeal. He assembled the quartet with the assistance of Terelle and Juwan’s father, producer and songwriter Steve Cooper, who began crafting original songs for the group. The resulting album, It Takes a Village, was issued by the label in the middle of 2012. The next year three members graduated high school, matching Al-Shamir’s status. The singers reunited with Steve Cooper for the follow-up project Join the Praise Party, which came out in October 2016.
Early in 2019 the Group Fire resurfaced with "Again," their first Billboard Gospel Airplay chart appearance; they later performed the track during the 2020 Stellar Awards telecast. The 2020 release "More Than Friends" landed just beyond the chart’s Top 20.
