Biography
Describing their sound as "Woody Allen meets Syd Barrett," Brooklyn musician Kevin Alvir uses the Hairs as his primary creative vehicle. Beginning in 2011, Alvir has periodically worked alongside Jacob Sloan and Steve Tarkington to issue a string of vivid DIY freak-pop recordings on independent imprints including Magic Marker, WeePop!, and Odd Box, drawing from the heyday of Flying Nun and K Records groups. Alvir, who also works as an illustrator, incorporates his eccentric portraiture and designs into the group’s visual aesthetic. Before 2016 the majority of their material took the shape of singles and EPs. Their first proper album, While I Hated Life, Barbarian, appeared that summer on the Ohio indie Old Flame Records.
