Established in 1961 in Patterson, New Jersey, the Happenings sustained an enduring core through founding member and lead singer Bob Miranda even as other personnel rotated periodically. The 1960s pop group secured a three-year streak of multiple hit singles toward the decade’s end. Their chart-topping entries comprised “See You in September” and “I Got Rhythm,” while further successes encompassed “Go Away Little Girl,” “My Mammy,” and “Girl on a Swing.” The ensemble also issued full-length albums such as the self-titled 1966 debut, 1967’s Psycle, and 1969’s Piece of Mind, appeared on television programs including The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson, The Smothers Brothers Show, and The Merv Griffin Show, and shared bills with the Beach Boys, Roy Orbison, Joan Rivers, John Denver, the Drifters, and the Kingston Trio. In the 1990s Miranda assembled a new lineup of the Happenings that performed alongside Bob Kulik and George Rizzi.
