Biography
From 1970 through 1973, Happy End investigated ways to merge Western folk vocals with Japanese melodies. In contrast to most acts of the period, the band—fronted by Haroumi Hosono and Takashi Matsumoto—chose to sing entirely in Japanese, a decision that proved especially consequential during an era dominated by English-language music. Hosono would later establish the Yellow Magic Orchestra.
