Sean Dickson initially gained recognition through his role in the indie-pop ensemble The Soup Dragons. Success arrived for the Manchester quartet via the appealing 1992 single "Divine Thing," though Dickson sought fresh directions by the middle of the decade. In 1995, he established The High Fidelity specifically to contribute to a High Times magazine compilation, marking a permanent shift in focus. Joining him in The High Fidelity were Ross McFarlane handling drums and Adrian Barry on bass; the group launched their recording career with the Stash EP during 1996. Their first full-length album, Demonstration, followed in 2002. Recognition came when Alternative Press featured The High Fidelity among the "100 Bands You Need to Know" within the March 2002 edition.
