Originating from Bogue Chitto, MS, the quartet consisted of Ralph Hodges on guitar and vocals, Felix Hodges on violin, James Hodges on rhythm guitar, and John White on bass and vocals. Primarily a bluegrass group across most of their history, they delivered a restrained yet persuasive shift toward rockabilly in the fall of 1956 through the track "I'm Gonna Rock Some Too," which spotlighted solos from both guitarists. Releases from the ensemble appeared on the Mississippi label as well as Trumpet, Decca, and Whispering Pines, in addition to a full LP issued by Arhoolie. Ralph Hodges also recorded a solo album independently.
