Biography
Andrew Bassett records under multiple musical guises, among them the Hound of Love, which he reserves for solitary forays into synth pop. The same musician appears as Jeans Wilder behind the drum kit for the punk outfit Mean Jeans, a group he entered in 2006. Seeking an outlet apart from that band’s Ramones-derived sound, Bassett launched the Hound of Love project several years afterward. In 2013 he issued Careful Houndy, an album of electronic pop and funk numbers he had tracked between 2004 and 2012 while performing every part himself. The set first appeared on cassette via Gnar Tapes before Burger Records, an independent Los Angeles imprint, handled its subsequent reissue. The following year Plastic Response Records put out another cassette, the entirely instrumental Heck No, I Don’t Listen to Techno.
