Originating in Brooklyn during 1958, the racially mixed vocal quartet the Impalas gained lasting notice through their 1959 single "Sorry (I Ran All the Way Home)," the act's sole Top 20 entry, which climbed to number two on the pop side and number 14 on the R&B chart. Its lineup featured Joe "Speedo" Frazier, the ensemble's only Black member, together with Richard Wagner, Lenny Renda, and Tony Carlucci. The foursome landed a deal with Cub, an MGM subsidiary that also released premium stereo sides by the Five Satins, the Harptones, the Stereos, the Velours, and the Wanderers. Cub placed the album Sorry (I Ran All the Way Home) in stores in August 1959, gathering further Impalas tracks cut for the imprint. Without additional chart entries, the group dissolved in 1961.
