Biography
A collective of Midwestern rappers who trade MP3 files over the Internet to build tracks constitutes the Impossebulls, an innovative virtual rap unit. Legendary Public Enemy provocateur Chuck D assembled the members and introduced them through his Slam Jamz label, and the group delivers pointed political commentary aimed at an oligarchic music business dominated by MTV-approved acts and major labels that absorb rap styles. Their opening salvo, the track “We Don't Need You,” anticipated the material later gathered on the debut album Special Edition (2002). Although the Impossebulls operate as a flexible network, four artists form the nucleus: Pvt Militant (Flint, MI), Marcus J (Xenia, OH), DJ President Ike (Manhattan, NY), and DJ Def Chad (Pittsburgh, PA). Additional contributors include Old School 76, Koz, Wildman Steve, XL, Dels, Jeff 10, Redbull, Xeno, Jamod, and producer C-Doc.
