Biography
Formed in Austin, Texas, the pop-ska outfit known as the Impossibles featured vocalists and guitarists Rory Phillips along with Gabe Hascall, supported by bassist Craig Tweedy and drummer Pat Elliott. Their initial full-length record arrived in 1997 under a self-titled banner, followed the next year by the EP Back for the Attack. Shortly thereafter the group split up so that its members could pursue college studies after completing high school. Music remained a priority for Phillips, who joined Go Kappa! and, in 1999, launched the Stereo alongside Jamie Woolford of Animal Chin. Material captured near the band's 1994 origins surfaced that same spring via the posthumous Anthology. A chance reunion after two years apart led to Return, which came out during summer 2000. The EP 4 Song Brick Bomb followed in spring 2001. With the group ending for good later that year, Phillips and Hascall established the indie rock project Slowreader.
