Biography
Originating from the creative vision of New Yorker Ashley Albert, daughter of music producer Howard Albert, the children's ensemble the Jimmies embodies the style often labeled "bubblegum meets indie." Immersed from childhood in an environment filled with music and performers, Albert routinely dozed on the studio couch as acts including the Allman Brothers and Eric Clapton laid down tracks nearby. Studio work therefore felt instinctive to her, leading to years of steady income from providing numerous voices and voice-overs for television commercials, an experience that also acquainted her with the inventive visual aspects of production. The Jimmies formed officially in 2006 after sponsors requested a kids band; Albert tested her skills at composing children's material and soon realized her talent for crafting straightforward, memorable tunes that blend playful energy with offbeat, broadly relatable insight. She likewise conceived accompanying videos for each song, rendering the Jimmies equally engaging to view and to hear. Although personnel has shifted over time, Albert's consistent artistic direction—incorporating elements such as a bubble gun and a groundhog puppet—imparts a unified appearance and atmosphere to any lineup that performs. The debut album Make Your Own Someday, produced by Albert together with her father Howard Albert and her uncle Ron Albert in Miami, arrived on her own Pluckypea Records label in 2008 and was first circulated from her New York living room. A national distributor handled its re-release in 2009, issued alongside the multimedia DVD Trying Funny Stuff.
