Forming an intellectually rigorous and insular experimental/post-rock ensemble, The Julie Mittens consist of Aart-Jan Schakenbos, Michel van Dam, and Leo Fabriek. Working largely outside traditional label structures, the group cultivated a fiercely loyal and nearly cult-like audience through a limited series of plainly titled, self-issued CD-Rs that omitted track listings, among them The Red Album (2003) and Recorded June 20, 2005. Their debut vinyl release, April/June, appeared on Rococo Records in 2003. Holy Mountain issued the trio’s fifth album, s/t, in 2008.
