Biography
In 1996, guitarist and vocalist Jason Moore joined forces with bassist and vocalist Gary Welch to launch the rock outfit the Katies from their base in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The pair first brought in musicians from the regional act FL.OZ to fill out the rhythm section and began performing in the area, yet a settled configuration arrived only after Moore’s younger brother Josh took the drum chair. The band next worked in the studio with producer Brian Carter; preliminary mixes from those sessions drew notice from both the regional imprint Spongebath Records and Elektra Records, resulting in a joint release of the self-titled debut album in 1999.
