Biography
The Langley Sisters, a vocal threesome from the U.K. made up of the sisters Gita Langley, Rosie Langley, and Edie Langley, channel a swampy, free-spirited reinterpretation of the Andrews Sisters. They deliver 1940s show tunes, girl-group standards, and similarly styled original material by blending vintage and contemporary energies in equal measure. Their exceptional vocal blend ensures the group functions as more than mere retro nostalgia. Each sister plays multiple instruments, and although their core material draws from the classic era of memorable melodies, a distinctly contemporary sensibility anchors them in the present day. Gita has contributed violin to sessions by Placebo and the Streets as well as to recordings by her spouse, the British vocalist and composer Ed Harcourt; Rosie, likewise a violinist, has appeared on tracks by Mutya Buena and Envy Corps in addition to further work with Harcourt.
