The Late Call

Johannes Mayer, a German singer and songwriter, operates under the name the Late Call from his base in Stockholm, Sweden. In 2009 he introduced himself to listeners via the album Leaving Notes, which presented a set of introspective indie folk tracks characterized by warmth and highlighting his expressive vocals along with his reflective approach to composition. The subsequent release You Already Have a Home arrived in 2010 and continued in a similar vein, drawing from traditional singer-songwriter traditions reminiscent of earlier John Martyn while incorporating touches of Americana here and there. With Pale Morning Light in 2012, additional layers of percussion, piano, and strings expanded the overall texture of his music. In pursuit of further sonic evolution, Mayer assembled a full band during 2014, which led to the creation of his fourth album Golden in 2015, featuring richer arrangements and a subtle rock edge.
