The Lee Boys emerged as a standout family ensemble within the gospel tradition known as Sacred Steel. This approach to sacred music blended blues and gospel foundations, its signature sound shaped when Willie and Troman Easton introduced steel guitars into worship services at the House of God church in Jacksonville, Florida, during the 1930s. Formed by brothers Alvin on guitar, Derrick on vocals, and Keith on vocals, along with nephews Roosevelt Collier on pedal steel, Alvin Cordy, Jr. on bass, and Earl Walker on drums, the group first developed its sound while performing regularly at the House of God church in Perrine, Florida. Extensive touring took the ensemble across the United States, including appearances at the Winnipeg Folk Festival and the Blues to Bop Festival in Switzerland in 2002, followed by a warmly received set at the Chicago Blues Festival in 2006.
