Formed in Wales in 2000, the indie pop outfit the Loves produces slinky, gritty garage-rooted tracks that recall 1960s outfits such as the Velvet Underground and the Rolling Stones as well as later groups like Helen Love, the Aislers Set, and Saturday Looks Good to Me. An ever-changing roster of dozens has passed through the band, among them Liz Hunt of the School, although its central lineup in 2009 comprised frontman Simon Love, bassist Dan, vocalist Jenna, keyboardist Ed, and drummer Johnny. The debut album Love appeared on Track & Field Records in 2004, with the follow-up Technicolour arriving three years later. Also issued in 2009 were the EP One-Two-Three and the third album Three. Nearing the ten-year mark, the group chose to disband and staged farewell concerts across the U.K. from late 2010 into early 2011, closing the chapter with the January release of its strongest record, Love You.
