Biography
An Atlanta-based trio drawn from the pop-metal outfit SouthGang, Marvelous 3 captured widespread critical praise in 1999 thanks to the breakout single “Freak of the Week.” Having formed in 1997, the group issued the earlier albums Math and Other Problems and Hey! Album, aligning itself with the high-energy pop approach heard from Everclear, Foo Fighters, and Buckcherry. Heavy MTV exposure followed, along with support slots alongside Collective Soul and blink-182. Frontman Butch Walker continued sharpening his craft, co-writing the track “Right Now” for Maryland’s SR-71—an early sign of the production and songwriting work he would later undertake for major artists. The remaining members, Slug and Jayce Fincher, rounded out the lineup, which also appeared in Calvin Klein and Abercrombie & Fitch campaigns before delivering ReadySexGo! from its Atlanta base in 2000. The next year the band chose to exit Elektra Records and soon dissolved; Walker subsequently launched a solo career while producing material for Avril Lavigne and Katy Perry.
