Biography
The Portland outfit the Mediam originated from the partnership of vocalist Gus Nicklos and guitarist Ondrej Fercak, longtime friends who had previously performed together across several high-school bands. After finishing school, the pair added drummer Joe Mengis to launch the short-lived hardcore project 5 Cent Refund. Once that group disbanded, the three drew inspiration from Bad Religion, Quicksand, and the Foo Fighters and re-formed as the Mediam. Bassist Adam Pike came aboard in 2003, after which the band launched tours up and down the West Coast. EPs followed in quick succession—One (2002), Out of Ideas (2003), and The White House Sessions (2004)—before the members entered the studio with producer Rob Daiker in 2006 to cut their debut album. The resulting Actress appeared in 2007, the same year guitarist Elijah Russell joined to complete the lineup and the band played multiple dates on the Warped Tour.
