Biography
Medusa Snare surfaced in 2008 as an essentially solo endeavor from Adam John Miller, who had previously played bass in Manhattan Love Suicides. Although operating within the same C-86 orbit, the project drew its primary spark from a distinct set of touchstones, Guided by Voices and the Clean foremost among them. While Manhattan Love Suicides were riding the wave of attention that followed their self-titled debut album in 2006, Miller’s side recordings necessarily remained secondary. In 2008 he enlisted Matthew Leach and Eddy Lines, the latter the drummer for Manhattan Love Suicides, to lay down tracks that would form Medusa Snare’s first proper album. After Manhattan Love Suicides parted ways on friendly terms the next year, Miller redirected his attention fully to the new group. Rachel Barker, another Manhattan Love Suicides alum, joined as drummer once Lines turned his focus toward Downdime; Daniel Morris took the bass chair, and John Perry was added on guitar to complete the lineup. Cinderella, the band’s debut long-player, appeared on Squirrel Records in autumn 2009. During the ensuing two years Medusa Snare cut additional material, among them a cover of a Tullycraft song that later surfaced on the tribute compilation Wish I'd Kept a Scrapbook.
