Biography
Red Lambert on guitar and vocals, Alan Watson on saxophone, Gil Lucas on piano, Lenny Blanche on bass, and Mike Felix on drums and lead vocals enjoyed brief renown after their ‘Mockingbird Hill’ single climbed into the UK Top 10 during March 1964, propelled by a short-lived bluebeat trend. Before welcoming Lambert and turning to pop, Felix, Blanche, and Lucas had already performed together as a jazz trio. They first cut material as the Migil Four, then recruited Watson on the recommendation of trumpeter Kenny Ball. Despite heavy media exposure, the ensemble never duplicated that achievement. They eventually became fixtures on the cabaret scene until the lineup collapsed once Felix pursued a solo path.
