In the midst of a 1930s studio date by the renowned string ensemble known as the Mississippi Sheiks, a subset of its participants laid down several tracks credited to the Mississippi Mud Steppers. Among those involved were guitarist Walter Vinson, multi-instrumentalist Charlie McCoy handling banjo and mandolin duties, and likely fiddler Lonnie Chatmon, who together produced a total of six numbers—one of which was the piece titled "Alma Waltz"—destined for release on Okeh's hillbilly series.
