Biography
Michael Brown departed the Left Banke, where he had served as the band’s principal creative force through his roles as lead songwriter, arranger, and keyboardist. He subsequently teamed with Montage to pursue the refined Baroque pop/rock approach established in his earliest Left Banke sessions. Although Brown held no formal membership in Montage, the group’s lone self-titled 1968 LP operates in practice as a solo vehicle for him; he produced the album, co-authored most of its songs, contributed keyboards, and shaped the vocal parts. Beautiful choral singing and exquisite pop melodies throughout make the record strongly reminiscent of his Left Banke recordings.
