Biography
In May 1969 the little-known British outfit the Mooche released its only single, coupling “Hot Smoke and Sasafrass” with “Seen Through a Light.” Its A-side delivered a close replication of Bubble Puppy’s “Hot Smoke and Sasafrass,” the American hit from earlier that year, while the B-side “Seen Through a Light” summoned the organ-centered, jazz-tinged psychedelic atmosphere associated with Traffic. Dave Winthrop, who played in the Mooche, later performed with both Supertramp and Secret Affair. The same pair of recordings resurfaced in 2007 on the CD anthology A Glass Menagerie: Pop, Psyche, Pye Collectables 1967-1969.
