In the 1960s the Motions stood out as a standard Dutch beat outfit that enjoyed solid domestic success, issuing seven albums along with more than twenty-seven singles across an eight-year run. Neither the strongest nor the weakest act to emerge from the Netherlands, the band produced mostly unremarkable chart entries that moved between lightweight folk-tinged ballads and harder mod-styled rockers. The standout track remains the intense 1966 mod stomper “Everything That’s Mine,” whose blistering feedback solo echoes the early Who. Today the group is chiefly recalled through its former lead guitarist and chief songwriter Robby van Leeuwen, who departed in 1967 to launch Shocking Blue and wrote that band’s global hit “Venus.”
