Biography
The Nevers came together in 1997, shaped by the influence of British mod bands including the Who and the Jam. John Paul Keith, who handled vocals and guitar, also drew from his earliest and deepest affinity for an extensive library of Beatles, Kinks, and Clash albums. Joined by guitarist Rick Tiller, bassist Paul Noe, and drummer David Jenkins, the group arrived on the Knoxville, TN music scene, startling the predominantly country-oriented residents of the city. Sire Records welcomed the departure from the usual slide guitar and whisky-soaked ballads associated with the area and issued the band’s self-titled debut in 1999.
