Biography
Eighth-graders from Beverly Hills formed the New Dimensions in 1962, after which the group promptly released three LPs of instrumental surf music on the modest Sutton budget label. Memory of the band among surf collectors rests almost entirely on its central figures, keyboardist Jimmy Greenspoon—who later joined Three Dog Night—and Michael Lloyd, whose subsequent affiliations included the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band and production work for the Osmonds, Shaun Cassidy, and Leif Garrett. Recording in the manner of the Chantays and Dick Dale, the New Dimensions failed to register commercially, in part because they issued only albums and never released any singles. After the ensemble became the Alley Kats and issued a handful of singles, Lloyd and Greenspoon went their separate ways, yet 22 tracks from the New Dimensions’ early period later surfaced on the CD compilation The Best of the New Dimensions.
