Biography
Formed in Sacramento, California during 2008, the Nickel Slots took shape as an alt-country, Americana-styled roots rock band built around drummer Christopher Amaral, vocalist and guitarist Tony Brusca, bassist and vocalist Paul Zinn, and lead guitarist and singer Steve Amaral. Their bright, energetic sound, which at peak moments merged Johnny Cash country with a punk veneer, quickly cultivated an enthusiastic and loyal fan base. Self-releasing two albums—the eponymous Nickel Slots in 2009 and 2011's Five Miles Gone—both projects earned strong critical notice while widening the group's audience.
