Biography
Fitting seamlessly into the skewed electro lineup of Oakland's Tigerbeat6 label, Numbers ignite the dancefloor through a volatile blend of new wave, no wave, punk, disco, garage, and synth-pop. Formed in San Francisco during 2000, the trio originated with vocalist and drummer Indra Dunis alongside ex-Xerobot guitarist Dave Broekema and keyboardist Eric Landmark. Their debut album Numbers Life, issued by Tigerbeat6 in June of 2002, reveals direct lineage from Gang of Four while sharing the closest affinities with labelmates Erase Errata and the U.K.'s Clinic. Throughout the remainder of 2002 the band expanded its discography via a contribution to the Toyo 20 Seconds compilation, the split 7" Nurses Help! with Lowdown, a split 3" CD alongside Erase Errata, and a track on The Beat Goes Off compilation that accompanied the June issue of The Wire. The year 2003 saw the release of volumes 1 and 2 of the Death Remixes together with the Ee-Uh! EP. Their second full-length, In My Mind All the Time, appeared in 2004; shortly afterward the group shifted to Kill Rock Stars, which issued the subsequent albums We're Animals in 2005 and Now You Are This in 2007.
