Drawing from the Wipers' brand of classic Northwestern punk alongside touches of vintage garage rock, surf, and rockabilly, Olympia, Washington's Old Haunts assembled in 2001. Singer and guitarist Craig Extine joined forces with bassist Scott Seckington and drummer Danny Sasaki to form the core lineup. Both Seckington and Sasaki had previously belonged to the Sedan, while Extine had already performed in Serum Greys, Fallout Dregs, and Veneral Uppers. The group issued its first recordings as the plainly titled First and Second EPs, later gathered together under the equally direct title Collection. Fallow Field, their debut full-length from 2005, featured Sasaki on drums yet also enlisted Natalie Cox of the Program and Chris Sutton of Dub Narcotic Sound System for additional percussion. By the time Fuel on Fire appeared in 2006, the Old Haunts had added Curtis James, another ex-Serum Greys member, as their regular drummer. Former Bikini Kill bandmate Tobi Vail then took over the drum chair for the band's third album, Poisonous Times.
