Biography
Greg Watson, an Ottawa, Ontario singer/songwriter, launched the Orange Alabaster Mushroom as a one-man project. While playing in the Fiends—an Ottawa garage-rock outfit unrelated to the Los Angeles punk band of the same name—he started capturing his own, more psychedelic solo work at home in early 1991. Those private sessions continued for years, yielding scattered tracks on little-known psych anthologies. The first official Orange Alabaster Mushroom release arrived in 1996 as the four-track EP The Psychedelic Bedroom, whose opening cut “We Are the Orange Alabaster Mushroom” served as both theme and manifesto. Almost three years elapsed before the next appearance, the 1999 single “The Slug” backed by “Ethel Tripped a Mean Gloss.” Earworm Records issued the limited-edition compilation LP Space and Time: A Compendium of the Orange Alabaster Mushroom in 2000. Hidden Agenda reissued the album in October 2001, appending three previously unreleased tracks.
