The Orange Krush

Origin: U.S.A
Listen on Coda
Formed as one of the earliest acts to fuse hip-hop with rock, Orange Krush consisted of bassist Larry Smith, who had previously played with Brighter Side of Darkness, guitarist Davey DMX, a former DJ for Kurtis Blow, and drummer Trevor Gale. The trio became an innovative presence during the formative years of Russell Simmons’ Def Jam Records, cutting several instrumentals that later supplied the musical foundation for Run D.M.C.’s landmark tracks “Sucker MC’s” and “Hollis Crew.” Although Smith and Simmons intended to enlarge the lineup with a female singer, the group disbanded, leaving each member to pursue separate endeavors.
