The Original Surfaris

Distinguishing this separate surf ensemble from Orange County, CA, from the well-known Surfaris behind "Wipe Out" remains necessary, since that outfit's major success prompted the independent group to adopt a new name. Though a capable unit on its own terms, the band issued only a handful of extremely obscure singles and tracks on compilation LPs, plus one album that stayed unreleased. Standout cuts including "Bombora," "Surfari," and "Latin'ia" deliver the eerie reverb guitar lines and Latin-derived minor melodies typical of the strongest instrumental surf music, even as the majority of the group's recordings stayed ordinary.
