Throughout its history the Panoply Academy served as an overarching identity for a central Indiana collective that weathered multiple roster shifts. Its earliest and longest-lasting configuration operated as the Panoply Academy Glee Club, driven by Nick Quagliara on bass, Marty Sprowles on guitar, Darin Glenn on guitar and trombone, Bekkah Walker on keyboards and samples, and Ryan Hicks on drums, with all members sharing vocal responsibilities. Following the issues of the full-length albums Rah! and What We Defend, the exit of two participants prompted a reconfiguration into the Panoply Academy Corps of Engineers, an ensemble that dispensed with keyboards, samples, and prominent bass lines. Concentus appeared in April of 2000. The group’s final phase adopted the designation Panoply Academy Legionnaires and produced No Dead Time in 2001. In November of 2004 Secretly Canadian assembled a retrospective of out-of-print and previously unreleased material spanning every prior name and period of the Panoply Academy.
