Biography
Formed in 2002, the British trio the Poker Dots specializes in the sounds of the 1950s through the combined efforts of guitarist and vocalist John O'Malley, bassist Zac Zdravkovic, and drummer Spencer Lingwood. All three musicians had previously performed together in the U.K. group Good Rockin' Tonight, which focused on 1950s-style rock & roll. Their shared enthusiasm for Western swing, doo wop, and vocal jazz from the same period prompted them to create the Poker Dots as a vehicle for blending those influences. The group tracked its debut album, Cocktail Swing—a set of 1950s pop standards—at Zdravkovic’s studio, with P-Vine Japan issuing the record in spring 2004. Outside their work as the Poker Dots, O'Malley remained active in Good Rockin' Tonight, Zdravkovic launched the Jive Romeros, and Lingwood took the drum chair in Blast Off.
