The Quiet Room took shape in 1992 as a Denver, Colorado hard rock band that fused prog metal textures—most noticeably through keyboards that sometimes recalled Dream Theater—with straightforward heavy metal. Guitarists Jason Boudreau and George Glasco started the project, rounding out the first lineup with vocalist Chadd Castor, bassist Josh Luebbers, drummer Mike Rice, and keyboardist Jeff Janeczko. That roster cut a demo in 1995 that spread through the metal underground, generating enough interest for the band to perform at a Baltimore metal festival before releasing any album and, ultimately, to secure a deal with Metal Blade. The group issued its first full-length album, Introspect, in 1998. When the follow-up, Reconceive, appeared in 2000, three original members had departed; Pete Jewell on vocals, Rob Munshower on bass, and Graeme Wood on keyboards stepped in alongside the remaining core of Boudreau, Glasco, and Janeczko.
