The Race

Indie darlings The Race assembled toward the close of 1999 after drummer Kevin Duneman exited Chisel Drill Hammer. Duneman joined forces with Craig Klein on vocals and guitar plus Steve Art on guitar and vocals to shape the band's melodic pop approach inside their hometown of Chicago for the balance of that year. A self-titled EP surfaced before December closed, while Chicago Ruins Everything arrived as the group's first full-length release midway through 2000. Throughout the same stretch Duneman also collaborated with Slacker, Ativin, and Telefon Tel Aviv. The Race delivered its second album, The Perfect Gift, during fall 2002. Bassist Jeremy Parker entered the lineup before the calendar year concluded. The Rose EP followed in spring 2004.
