Biography
In Livonia, Michigan, September 1999 marked the formation of The Recital, as vocalist Chris Ostafinski, guitarist Ryan Brescoe, bassist Adam Kempa, and drummer Rob Byrd first joined forces. The group embraced an eccentric, energetic style of indie rock and quickly launched live shows across the Detroit region, frequently appearing alongside associates from Red Shirt Brigade and This Is Adelaide. Summer 2001 brought the release of The Chord Chord Chord Chord Chord Chord Other Chord EP, coinciding with the band’s continued efforts to overhaul its sound. Further evolution appeared in summer 2002 with the arrival of Things That Could Very Well Happen and Ruin Your Life. Late that same year the quartet contributed to Suburban Sprawl Records’ Home Recordings Vol.1 collection while preparing a full-length album slated for 2003.
