Biography
Forming a supergroup known as The Reindeer Section, various talents from Scotland's vibrant music scene and prominent figures in late-'90s indie rock came together. Emerging from the same urban center that propelled Travis, Primal Scream, and Texas onto the British musical landscape, the collective delivered odes to their homeland alongside dreamy ballads evoking intoxication and reverie. Conceived as a studio experiment, the project yielded ten days of sonic experimentation featuring Mick Cooke and Richard Colburn from Belle & Sebastian alongside Aidin Moffatt of Arab Strap and Mogwai's John Cummings, culminating in the release Y'all Get Scared Now, Ya Hear!. Contributions from Snow Patrol's Jonny Quinn and Gary Lightbody, along with chosen artists from Astrid and additional players representing Hercules, Eva, Mull Historical Society, and V-Twin, enriched the lush yet shadowy sonic tapestries. Bright Star Recordings put out Y'all Get Scared Now, Ya Hear! in the United Kingdom during the first months of 2001, with PIAS America following suit in the autumn. In the subsequent year, the ensemble grew through inclusions such as Idlewild's Roddy Woomble, Teenage Fanclub's Norman Blake, and performers from The Vaselines and Cadet, fostering an even more expansive sonic palette. Summer 2002 saw the arrival of their follow-up effort, Son of Evil Reindeer.
