The Resurrection Sorrow

New York City’s the Resurrection Sorrow embrace a deliberately unpolished take on heavy metal’s foundational elements, laced with stoner and sludge textures. Formed in the mid-2000s by vocalist Alex Dementia (ex-After Dark), multi-instrumentalist Alex Coelho (Tides Within, ex-Malstrom), and drummer Louie Gasparro (Murphy’s Law, Blitzspeer, etc.), the band issued its first full-length record, Hour of the Wolf, in 2009; the album featured lyrics steeped in occult imagery delivered through raspy vocals, guitars coated in grit yet open to melodic turns, and a robust, entirely analog rhythm section. Lead guitarist Zak Gross joined just prior to those sessions, freeing Coelho to commit to bass, after which the same lineup tracked the 2011 EP The Scorpion Savior Sessions.
