Biography
Prior to cutting their 1960 instrumental smash “Wheels,” which reached the number-three slot, the String-A-Longs had already issued singles under two earlier aliases. Their first release appeared in 1958 while they performed as the Rock ’n’ Rollers; a follow-up emerged the next year after they adopted the name Leen Teens. The Rock ’n’ Rollers’ only 45, released on Ven, placed the sturdy, lightly Buddy Holly-inflected rockabilly track “For You” on the A-side and the saccharine ballad “’Boy!’ I Think It’s Really Love” on the B-side. Both sides later resurfaced on the String-A-Longs CD collection The Tex-Mex Teen Magic of the String-A-Longs.
