The punk rock outfit the Saint Alvia Cartel took shape in Burlington in 2005 and drew its name from a Canadian war hero. Guitarist and vocalist Rob Pasalic had already gained experience with Boys Night Out, Greg Taylor had played in both Jersey and Victory Records’ Grade, and Ben Rispin had previously served as lead vocalist for the Video Dead, with Greg Fisher, Matt Richmond, and Brandon Bliss completing the lineup. After posting two demo tracks on MySpace in 2006, the group landed a contract with Stomp Records. Their self-titled debut arrived in May 2007 and earned both critical and commercial success. Further recognition followed in 2008 when the Saint Alvia Cartel received a nomination for Best Rock Album at the Juno Awards, and the band performed at that year’s South By Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Texas.
