Biography
Emerging from North Carolina's ongoing supply of strong power pop acts, The Saving Graces originated as the creative project of singer, songwriter and guitarist Michael Slawter. Slawter first attracted notice while playing in Neidermeyer, an upbeat pop group whose 2001 album For Those About To Pop received warm notices from the Southern music press. Slawter and fellow songwriter and guitarist Arthur Gormley soon discovered they were heading in separate musical directions, leading Slawter to launch The Saving Graces in the summer of 2002 in order to explore a more melodic pop direction. Joining forces with bassist Drew Jenkins and drummer John Holoman, Slawter and The Saving Graces issued their debut EP, These Stars Are For You, through the Paisley Pop Records label in 2003.
