Embodying breezy emo-tinged power pop that fused Jimmy Eat World’s fiery hooks with Beach Boys harmonies filtered through the Thrills, Philadelphia’s the Scenic slotted naturally into both the late-‘00s Victory Records milieu and the Vans Warped Tour. Fronted by ex-Rory vocalist Jeremy Menard, the quintet first surfaced on the celebrated punk trek—also opening for Saves the Day that year—before issuing its 2008 debut on the label once rooted in hardcore. Find Yourself Here delivered a robust serving of the five-piece’s delicate balance of upbeat rock riffs and melancholy lyrics. A second appearance on the 2009 Warped Tour edition raised the Scenic’s profile still higher.
