Biography
In 1980 the Australian pop outfit the Sherbs came together, emerging from the ashes of Sherbet, one of the most commercially dominant local acts of the preceding decade that had notched numerous successes such as "Child's Play," "Slipstream," "Cassandra," "Life," "Summer Love" and the chart-topping "Howzat." The Sherbs brought back together vocalist Daryl Braithwaite, guitarist Harvey James, bassist Tony Mitchell, keyboardist Garth Porter and drummer Andy Sandow—the same musicians who had previously performed as Sherbet—yet after their first album I Have the Skill appeared, Harvey departed and guitarist Tony Leigh stepped in to record 1981's Defying Gravity. The band next put out the 1982 mini-LP Shaping Up, then staged a final tour billed as Sherbet before breaking up the following year, after which Braithwaite went on to establish a thriving solo path.
