The Silver Lake Chorus

Hailing from Los Angeles’s Silver Lake district, the Silver Lake Chorus comprises a 20- to 25-voice ensemble devoted to indie rock repertoire reshaped in the manner of alternative and independent music, supported by guitars, synths, percussion, strings, and an array of further instruments. Under choral director Mikey Wells the group recorded the theme for the 2010 parody film MacGruber and joined the Lonely Island’s 2011 single and Saturday Night Live digital short “I Just Had Sex,” featuring Akon, which reached number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 and registered on charts in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and several European countries. Their self-titled debut album received original songs from an array of contributors that includes Sia, Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd of the Flaming Lips, Ben Gibbard, Ben Lee, Aimee Mann, A.C. Newman, John Roderick, Tegan and Sara, Justin Vernon, and the Bird and the Bee. Ben Lee, himself one of the song providers, served as producer for the June 2015 release on Six Degrees Records.
