Biography
Originating in the closing years of the 1990s, The Sisterhood of Convoluted Thinkers took shape when Rob Christiansen—previously a member of Tsunami, Eggs, and Liquorice—joined forces with his wife, Jeannine Durfee, to launch the quirky indie pop outfit in the Washington D.C. area. A split release on Darla Records and 555 Records brought their 1999 self-titled debut to listeners, highlighting the duo’s studio experiments and distinctive sonic approach. Conceived and tracked in Japan, Ume Sour drew its title from a Japanese cocktail and surfaced in 2001 via Darla Records as a cleaner-sounding indie synth pop album. Teenbeat Records issued Better Days, Coming Now in 2003. Jessica Weil on drums and guitarist/sampler Mark McAdam joined the lineup for live performances, while the group contributed tracks to assorted indie pop/rock compilations across its lifespan.
