Biography
Despite lacking broad acclaim, the Skeletons built a loyal niche following that positioned them as a modestly successful roots-rock band throughout the late 1980s and 1990s. Springfield, Missouri served as home base when the group assembled in 1979 as the touring unit Steve Forbert had put together. After that tour ended, the musicians chose to remain intact, issuing their own recordings during stretches when they were neither on the road under their own name nor backing other performers. Their first American album, Rockin' Bones, arrived in 1987. Across the following decade the band stayed active, most notably supplying support for Syd Straw and Dave Alvin, yet produced only three further albums: In the Flesh! (1988), Waiting (1992) and Nothin' to Lose (1997).
