Biography
Formed in 1964 under the name the Group 5, the British pop/rock band the Spectrum originally featured vocalist Colin Forsey, guitarist Tony Atkins, bassist Tony Judd, keyboardist Bill Chambers, and drummer Keith Forsey. The lineup released a lone single in 1965 while still operating as the Group 5, then adopted its new identity and scored a number one hit in Spain with the debut single “Samantha’s Mine,” although the Spectrum remained largely unnoticed in its native United Kingdom. Despite failing to register on the British charts, the group performed the theme song for the children’s television series Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons and supplied music to assorted film soundtracks. Later singles reached the charts in Spain and Germany, while a self-titled album appeared exclusively in Spain in 1969. Following modest personnel adjustments, the band issued the album The Light Is Dark Enough in 1970 and disbanded soon afterward. Keith Forsey stayed active in the industry, co-writing major hits throughout the 1980s and producing recordings for Billy Idol and the Pointer Sisters. Cherry Red Records released the complete retrospective All the Colours of the Spectrum: Complete Recordings 1964-1970 in 2017.
