Biography
In 2004 Jason Bays, already active in Tall Tales & the Silver Lining, joined forces with Colleen Coffey to launch The Spires. Taking cues from the Velvet Underground, Robyn Hitchcock, and the Kinks, the pair assembled a set of drowsy, psychedelia-tinged indie pop tunes and issued them that summer as the Amplifier EP on their homegrown label Beehouse Records. Their first full-length album, Written in a Year with a Lot of Rain, appeared in early 2006, with the Sky Sky EP following before the year ended. A year later Spaceland Recordings released an album’s worth of Velvet Underground covers credited to Spaceland and Part Time Punks Present: The Spires (As the Velvet Underground). The summer of 2008 brought bassist Catelyn Kindred into the lineup as the group’s third member, along with the Look EP. Their second full-length album, A Way of Seeing, came out the next year.
